Review-Saucony Guide 8’s #RunTheseSauconys

IMG_4971

Adrian in yellow and me in blue.

This past week Adrian and I ran in the Saucony Guide 8’s as a part of a week-long #RunTheseSauconys test program at our local running store-Varsity Sports, New Orleans. This program was really neat in that we were able to get the shoes on Monday and return them the following Saturday. We were really excited to get a chance to run in a pair of Sauconys! Adrian is currently running in Asics 1000. and I am currently running in Brooks Glycerin 11.

The Saucony Guide 8’s are a light stability shoe.

Flat Leah for one of my test runs.

Where did we wear out shoes: We each ran in our shoes 3-5 times during the week. For the most part each run was 5 or less miles in the shoes. The shoes were worn on the track, road, and grass. These shoes were not tested in rain or on trails. Because these shoes will travel to be tested by another location, we tried to keep the shoes as clean as possible.

IMG_4978

Adrian and I showing off our bright colors and local running club tanks!

What Adrian said about the shoes: Adrian was really excited to “test” out these shoes! At the time we were in our third week of training for the Chicago Marathon and having something “new” really added to our workouts! Adrian’s favorite aspect of the shoe was the cushion. From the first lace up, Adrian noted how comfortable the shoe felt. He also liked the elastic laces. They stayed tied during each run. Adrian’s least favorite aspect of the shoe was that it left him with blisters after the first run.

Note: Adrian received a size bigger than he normally wears in shoes to “test”. He is sure that if he would have been in the correct size, he did not think that blisters would have not been a problem.

What I said about the shoes: I was glad to run in these shoes. It really motivated me to get out to do my runs knowing that I would be in a “test” shoe. I had several people ask me my opinion about the shoe because they saw my posting via social media. My favorite aspect of the shoe was the supportive ankle area. My least favorite aspect of the shoe was that it was a little narrow for my feet. I have pretty wide feet. Once I worked with the laces I was able to loosen the shoe up to make it more comfortable for running. However, I think that this aspect of the shoe would keep me from purchasing this particular model.

IMG_4986

Last run in my shoes. Don’t my new seafoam SWIFTWICK socks look nice with the Saucony’s?

Final thoughts: I would always recommend getting fitted for shoes at a local running store. They are trained to know what type of shoe is best for you and for your needs. I have never worn Sauconys for running before this week! I enjoyed running in this shoe. I felt like it was a very supportive and comfortable shoe. This shoe model only comes in a medium width and so this particular model may not be the best fit for me, as I have wider feet.

Be sure to check to see if your local running store is hosting a week-long test run! Purchase the Saucony Guide 8 for men here and for women here.

Go and be a light,

Leah

Do you run in Saucony?

Have you ever participated in a shoe “test run”? Was it for a day or a week? Did you like being able to test it out?

What other Saucony products should we try? I’ve got my eye on the Bullet Capris-Thanks to the recommendation of Another Mother Runner.

*Disclaimer-Adrian and I were not provided with any compensation for “testing” out these shoes. We merely ran in them for a week in order to give our honest options about these shoes.

Hungry Runner Girl’s Survey

Friday Hungry Runner Girl Janae put out a little runner survey on her blog! I thought it would be fun to do a blog post from her survey. I love reading Janae’s blog and she is a frequent contributor on Women’s Running. I have learned so much from her about fueling with Swedish Fish to staying motivated during training plans!  Be sure to check her out!

1.  Would you rather run along a beach path or on a mountain trail?

I would rather run along a beach trail. I am not much for creepy crawly things and so I would enjoy beach running more. Bonus: After a beach run you could hunt for seashells or just go hop in the ocean.

2.  If you could choose the flavor of Gatorade at your next race’s aid stations, what would it be?

I would most likely go for something like Citrus-Cooler. But mainly anything that is not red or fruit punch flavored. Something about drinking red drinks during a race just makes me feel queasy.

3.  If I gave you a $100 gift card to a running store, what would be the first thing that you would purchase with it?

I would go straight to Varsity Sports-New Orleans and order the Brooks Glycerin 13 in the color 661.They look just like Cotton Candy! My favorite!  I love these shoes so much! I want to get them for my training for the Chicago Marathon and use the hashtag #CottonCandyChicago !

4.  Do you prefer to follow a training plan or wake up and decide then how far and how fast you want to run?

I prefer a training plan. If left to my own resources, I would just sleep in.

5.  Would you rather start your run with the uphill and end on the downhill or start your run with the downhill and end with the uphill?

I would rather start on the uphill and end on the downhill. That way the thrill of going uphill would pump me up for the rest of my run!

6.  When you can’t run, what type of cross-training do you choose to do?

When I can’t run, I enjoy walking or yoga dvds. I would really like to become a better swimmer and to use swimming for cross-training.

7.  What is your preference—>  Out and back, point to point or loop runs?

On my normal weekend long I run in loops for the most part. But for a race I prefer a point-to-point so that I can see more of an area.

8.  If you could recommend ANY running related item to a new runner, it would be a—>

Body Glide and Swiftwick socks.

9.  Do you ever see any wild animals while out on your runs?

I have seen squirrels, cranes, blue birds, caterpillars, and roaches on runs!

Most unique thing on a run: Close to Mardi Gras I have seen stilt walkers practicing.

10.  Ever gotten lost while out on a run?

I don’t think I have ever gotten lost on a run.

11.  If you could have one meal waiting and ready for you each time you got home from a run for the next 30 days… what would that meal be?

Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas with yellow rice. It’s one of my favorite meals!

12.  Capris or shorts… what do you run in most often?

I usually run in running skirts or capris. I did buy my first pair of shorts since 2008 this year and it was so weird running in them.

13.  At what mile (or how many minutes) into your run does your body start to feel like it is warming up and ready to go?

Usually by mile 3. But mile 8 has always been my favorite mile of a long run.

14.  What do you do with your key when you run?

I give it to my husband or put in in the side pocket of my skirt.

15.  If you could relive any race that you have done in the past, which one what it be?

I would relive the Seaside School half marathon from this past March. This race was not my best. I would like to go back and think of ways to calm myself down so that I could run this race well.

16.  What type of run is your least favorite type of run?

Not sure. I’m not really advanced enough to have different types of runs yet.

17.  What has been your biggest motivation lately to get out the door to get your run on?

Training for the Chicago Marathon. This will be mine (and my husband’s) first full marathon. I really want to train smart.

18.  When you go for a run, do you leave right from your front door or do you drive somewhere to start?

During the week, I leave right from my door. On the weekend, we usually drive to one of the parks in New Orleans to run.

19.  When running in daylight—>  are sunglasses a must or an annoyance?

I have never ran in sunglasses. I usually just wear hats or visors if it is bright out. But I am interested in sunglasses. Do you have a pair your recommend?

20.  When you get tired, what keeps you from quitting?

Knowing how many miles I need to get in that day.

Go and be a light,

Leah

Have you taken Hungry Runner Girl’s survey?

How are you spending your holiday weekend?

Five things Friday-Scripture

Friday is here! I hope y’all have enjoyed this week! Today I wanted to share with you five Scriptures that I have been reading lately. I hope these Scriptures from the Bible will encourage your heart. These verses are coming from the English Standard Version for your reference.

1. Deuteronomy 31:8 “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

2. Romans 5:1-5 “5 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”

3. Hebrews 10:19- 25 “19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

4. 1 Peter 1: 3-12 “3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, 11 inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. 12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.”

5. 1 Peter 5:10-11 “10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

I hope that the truth of these words and that the hope that is available through Jesus Christ will bring you great encouragement today.

Go and be a light,

Leah

What verses are you reading right now?

Do you have a particular Scripture you read when you are in need of hope?

Five things Friday

Here’s a little eclipse of what happened this week in the Life-o-Leah.

1. Char’s Birthday. Tuesday was Char’s birthday! So we celebrated with dinner at Juan’s flying burrito-Mid City. After all, what says I’m so glad you made 28 more than chips and salsa! We had so much fun and laughed all night! I’m so glad to celebrate this sweet sister!

IMG_4947

2. Summer Series with Beth. Lauren was there too, but she ran faster than us. This week kicked off the Summer Series for the New Orleans Track Club. Even though I was convinced for most of last week that the first run of the series was on National Running Day. You pay $5.00 to run each race or you can join the track club for around $30.00 and run all of the Summer Series for free. There are four races in the series. After each race there is food and some type of game for prizes. This summer they are doing running trivia for prizes-so I am trying to learn obscure facts about runners to win an NOTC hat or beach towel. I hope they ask something about Lauren Fleshman!

IMG_4951

3. Set some summer goals. Well guys, I’ve been needing some extra peep in my step these days! So I am doing some things to make sure I am going in the right direction. (Praying, reading the Bible, meeting with accountability partners) But I also know that having a new goal or something to plan for can help me as well! This week I began to write out mine and Adrian’s weekly plan on a giant poster board on the back of our door at home. This plan included mileage, foam rolling, nightly plans, and goals to accomplish this week. I am hoping doing this will help me to eat the elephant one bite at a time.

While Beth and I were running the other night I told her that this summer I want to beat my PR in the 2-miler. Beth said this sounded like a good idea to her. Since I am training for a little thing called the Chicago marathon, I think having a shorter distance time goal will be something fun to work on. We also discussed themes and ideas for Ironman in November. Beth’s husband, Josh, and our friend Jessica will be running the race. We are wanting to have a clever theme and signage for the big event!

4. Craft night at FBNO. This year was my 4th year to go to the “Make it-Take it” night at First Baptist New Orleans. Jenn best from Eden House spoke to the group about Praising the Lord in times of trials/suffering. This was a timely word for me. Jenn and I have been friends for many years and I’m so grateful to have her back in NOLA with me. I was glad that she would come and share her testimony!

IMG_4952

IMG_9032

For the craft this year we made crosses out of burlap. You could decorate your cross using paint, fabric, or buttons. I have a similar cross at my home and so I donated mine to the nursing home ministry. On my cross I wrote the word HOPE and then on the back of the cross I wrote the Scripture reference Romans 5:1-5. My sweet friend, Julie and I with our crosses at the end of the night.

Romans 5:1-5 ESV
5 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we  rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

A hope that does not put us to shame. A hope that does not disappoint. A hope that is poured out in the heart of a believer from the Holy Spirit. I am resting in this hope and clinging to it with every fiber of my being. This hope is real.

IMG_2744

My cross at my house. The fabric matches my curtains.

5. It’s going to rain all weekend. No really. Today from my office window it looked like I was in a drive-through car wash. While the weather may have thrown some kinks in our plans I am hoping that it will lead to a restful weekend.

Go and be a light,

Leah

What are your plans for the weekend?

Does your track club host any summer races or challenges?

What helps you to reach your goals?

Crescent Connection Bridge Run-AKA that time I ran to take a lot of photos

Happy Monday!

I hope your weekend was filled with lots of happy things and rest! Mine was! Now is the time I should let you know that this little post may be lengthy-so grab your chai latte and settle in.

As you may remember Char and I have been super excited about running the Crescent Connection Bridge Run! We were about to burst with excitement by 7 pm on Saturday.

Packet Pick-up:

So something you should know is that this race begins on the Westbank and ends on the Eastbank of New Orleans. On Thursday they had packet pick-up on the Eastbank and on Friday they hosted packet pick-up on the Westbank. I thought this was very considerate and fun! Bonus: When you were given your race bib you were able to select Westbank, Eastbank, or a regular bib to show what “Bank” you represented! How cute is that? I loved being able to see the different bibs and getting to know what neighborhood people were from at the race! Packet pick-up was a breeze. We went in at the lower level of the restaurant and received our shirts and bibs! It was a nice day out so we enjoyed parking and walking along the lakefront to get our items. They also had cute pink and blue “Crescent City Runner” tattoos at packet pick-up.

IMG_4931

The shirts for this year’s race were designed to look like soccer kits. I really like the color of the shirts. The shirts are a nice tech tee. When I went to pick up shirts they were out of women’s sizes in my size-but no worries. I was still glad to get my new tee!

Pre-race:

Adrian and I parked at the convention center in downtown Nola and then boarded a school bus to take us to the Westbank. On the bus we chatted with a couple from Destin, FL who had come to run the race! We were all so excited to be running this race for the first time!

I was so excited to see my friend Courtney as soon as we arrived on the Westbank! This was her first race in New Orleans-so I could not wait to hear how she was feeling about everything. Soon after we found Courtney our friends Brandon and Lauren arrived, and then the Char, Andrew, and James arrived. The pre-race had plenty of water and porta potties. The water had ice in it and it was like manna from Heaven!

As you can see Char and I decided not to match. After all that fretting we just decided to run in something we each liked. That mean Char rocked her new Another Mother Runner visor and I got to feel sassy in my “Move Ya Brass” tank from Fit By You.

IMG_4875

Me, Courtney, Lauren, and Char.

Prior to the race they led the group through a warm up. This was the first race I have done that included a group warm up. I really enjoyed this part of the race. There was a nice grassy area for us to stretch in where the warm up took place. But I was a little embarrassed when Ms. Destin bent over. Yikes. IMG_4881

During the race:

Get ready for SO. MANY. PHOTOS. This is a group of the people in front of us! Needless to say, this race was bigger than I anticipated. Char and I looked for other bloggers-but we did not see them. But with this many people at the race, I understand it was hard to meet up with everyone! IMG_4886

IMG_4887

The race was fairly crowded at the beginning. And it really did not thin out until we were on the bridge. This was not a problem for us as our main goal for this race was to have fun. The race was very walker friendly, and there were several people with strollers.

Mile 1:

Mile 1 began at the West Jeff Fitness Center. From here you took a left turn to along a paved stretch of road prior to the on ramp. The first half a mile was flat and the second half of the mile began a slight uphill. At the first mile maker there was a much welcomed water stop. Thank you Kentwood Springs Water!

IMG_4890

The last time we would be on flat land.

This was where we began our uphill ascent. It was such a beautiful race! Char and I made sure to take several Glamour Shots along the way! We knew y’all were depending on us!

IMG_4891

That’s our city right behind us!

IMG_4894IMG_4899

IMG_4902

Mile 2:

At mile 2 there was another water station. God Bless those sweet volunteers-they were so kind and encouraging. By this time we were still going uphill, but the shade of the bridge was beginning to cover us. The sun was setting over the city and everyone was stopping to take photos.
IMG_4906

IMG_4898

Char and Andrew being magically in love.

Mile 3 ish:

This mile was especially meaningful to me. A little back-story: My mother-in-law was diagnosed with ALS in the fall of 2013. She was an avid walker (prior to her diagnosis) and really enjoyed being outside. Since her diagnosis she has been limited on her ability to enjoy walking and other things she once enjoyed freely. When we mentioned to her that the race was 4 miles long she responded that she used to walk that many miles. We asked her which mile was her favorite when she walked, and committed to praying for her during that mile Saturday. It was really special to have that time to pray for my mother-in-law. Knowing this I was even more grateful to be doing something that I love so much with Char and her family on Saturday.

IMG_4907IMG_4912IMG_4914IMG_4915IMG_4918

Char and I stopped for a photo! You can see sweet James is enjoying the race as well! We would run for a few feet and then be like “Oh, we must get a photo of this!” We enjoyed running and walking over the bridge.

We were having the best time-running, laughing, walking, having a photo shoot. Then we spotted one of the official photographers! We were like “We are best friends-take our picture!”

Downhill:

At this point int he race I remember Char saying, “Who knew the downhill would be so hard?” The off ramp was a little steep and curvy. But it made us feel really fast as we ran down to the road by the Convention Center. Soon after we saw the Convention Center we turned left and were greeted with the entrance to Mardi Gras World. One more left turn and we would be at the finish line.

IMG_4919IMG_4921IMG_4922IMG_4923IMG_4924IMG_4926

Well I think our smiles say it all. Char and I were beyond thrilled to have completed this race together. It’s not often someone  (sweet Larisa) asks you to do something you love with your BRF. And we had a sunset over the city to boot!

At the finish line I was so excited to see not only Adrian, but also our friends Richard and Josh in the chute when we were finishing the race! Adrian cheered “You’re winning!” at me! And I just laughed my way to the finish. At the finish line we were given light up necklaces with flowers on them to wear at the post race party.

Post-race:

New Orleans know how to do many things well. But we excel at eating and throwing a good party! This post-race was no exception to these truths! The post-race was abuzz of people, music, and food. Greeting runners to the party were Kentwood Springs water on both sides. They had baby swimming pools filled with ice and bottled water. To the right of the after party was the stage, Community Coffee, and multiple tents for food and local races. The left side of the party was lined with food trucks and other local race tents. Among them were La CocinitaCrepes A La Carte, and Dippin Dots. There was plenty room to sit and enjoy the evening. The view is pretty spectacular from under the bridge as well!

This race was also the final race in the Bridge Run Series. Participants who completed all of the Bridges were given a commemorative medal at this end of this race!

IMG_4930IMG_4940IMG_4936IMG_4935IMG_4939IMG_4937

Unique parts of the race:

Potties. The pre-race and post-race have lots of porta-potties. However, once your toes hit the incline there are no potties to be found. Take note of this for next year’s race.

Spectators. The whole city is your fan! Literally cars upon cars would honk, scream, and cheer their hearts out for you on the bridge. It was the most unique experience of any race I have ever ran! You really feel like such a celebrity running over the bridge and having people cheer for you! It was so much fun! The race takes place in the HOV lane and so the other lanes are still open to traffic. Fear not a large median keeps them from being in contact with you!

Sunset. Besides that fact that this race is so fun to run. You may should just participate in it for the fact that you get to see the WHOLE city at sunset. It is truly breathtaking and will make you glad to call Nola home.

Start and Finish Line. Where else can you begin on one bank and end on another? This race is perfect for those who claim that “Westbank is the best bank” and for all of us that call the neighborhoods of the Eastbank ours. It is so neat to look back at the photos to see all this point-to-point race covers.

Things I wished for regarding this race:

Really there are not many things I wished for this race. But one thing I thought might be nice is since the race ends near Mardi Gras World is if they would have a few floats or decorations out to make photos with. Or if our race bibs gave us a discount to go to the museum for the month following the race. These are just a few ideas I have in regard to the finish line.

All in all I had a wonderful time. I even told Char that I don’t think I would have had a better time if they told me that they put this race on just for me to enjoy myself! This race was just what I needed. I am happy to have ran/walked it with Char and her family. And running this race makes me excited for all of the running adventures this summer.

This week beings the New Orleans Track Club Summer Series at City Park. And it also kicks off mine and Adrian’s official training for the Chicago Marathon!

Thanks to the Crescent Connection Bridge Run and to Larisa for this experience. I am so grateful to have ran a new area of the city!

Go and be a light,

Leah

Did you run the Crescent Connection Bridge Run? If so, what did you think?

What’s next on your race calendar for summer?

Does your track club have a Summer Series?

Disclaimer: I was given a free race entry to blog and share about the race via social media. All opinions are my own. But you know me-I love running in Nola!

RACE WEEK!!!!! Crescent Connection Bridge Run!!!

IMG_2669

Race Week!!! What an exciting thing to prepare for! I honestly can’t believe how fast it got here! It seems like just yesterday one of my #BRF Char and I were talking about what to wear…oh wait that was yesterday! Nevermind!

To say that Char and I are excited about running in this race would be an understatement! We are probably two of the most excitable people God made and we are getting to do something we love together! It could only get better if we were at Disney World! (Hint Hint-husbands) Also, Char’s life-long dream is to go to Disney with her husband, Andrew-so everyone’s dreams would be coming true it would be amazing!!!!!

But, I digress. And even though this race won’t take us winding around Magic Kingdom we are no less excited to be running these four glorious miles together! The truth is the past few weeks for the both of us have been some of the most difficult times of our lives. And while we ultimately trust in Jesus for our hope and our future-We also welcome the distraction of planning for a race, race day outfits, and multiple needed trips to Target to prepare for the day!

IMG_2508

1. Race day prep.

Y’all I think we both about peed our pants when Larisa asked us to be “bloggers” for this race! Who? Us? We are just two silly girls who run around and giggle. But we are doing our best to get our “professional blogger” act together so that y’all can know what a great race this is and how much fun we are going to have running it-Despite the fact that the website says it starts with 1 mile uphill. Are we worried-no way! We just like to think of it as an adventure course where natives (of New Orleans) get to see what the terrain in other parts of the U.S. feel like. Count us in! We did contemplate our need for hiking boots given the up and down hill nature of a bridge, but ultimately passed on the idea because it would not go best with our “look”.  Which brings me to my next point.

IMG_0092

Char and I with Larisa in February!

It was like meeting a celebrity! See how calm we look!

2. Race day outfits.

Of course major consideration has been given to what we will wear for this occasion. It kind of feels like a debutante ball for us. You know it being our first time to blog and run and all. Char and I are no stranger to matching. We feel it gives us a little something extra, dontcha think? (Cue Legally Blonde resume here)

IMG_2546

IMG_2699

But the question is. Do we run in our favorite matchy match outfits (shown above) or something else? Our options are as follows:

  • NOTC neon pink tank, black bottoms. With either neon green or pink Sparkly Soul headbands.
  • Criss-cross matching. Me in black top, pink bottom, and Char in pink top, black bottom. Both in neon pink Sparkly Soul headbands.
  • Or both in NEW neon orange (obviously monogrammed) tops, black bottoms, and Robin’s egg blue Sparkly Soul headbands (Disclaimer: Char ran in the new top today and I would run in mine tonight-so nothing new on race day)

3. Race day motivation.

Insert every motivational Pinterest pin here. But really we just want to celebrate! We are grateful for our friendship. Grateful to enjoy running. Grateful to get the opportunity to run in a new area of a city that has meant so much to the both of us. And at the end of that bridge we will be grateful for four more miles we were able to run together.

4. Anything else we should cover?

Oh yeah. It’s going to be super hot. Welcome to summer in NOLA. We love this city. But if we could we would just put on bathing suits and wear them until September.

So we will be hydrating properly in anticipation of Saturday. We will wear our sunscreen and prepare for a seriously fun afterparty! Only in NOLA do they feed you jambalaya for running! It’s amazing! And it means you don’t have to cook supper! It’s a win-win situation for everyone!

If you are running the race you can find out information here. If you have any questions about this race-check out their FAQ page here. And don’t forget about their Facebook page here.

Let me know if you will be at the race! Are you running a race this week? How are you celebrating National Running Day?

Go and be a light,

Leah

Five things Friday..sorry it’s been so long

Y’all,

I am so sorry that it has been so long since I have posted. To say that 2014 sent me for a loop would be the understatement of my life! There are so many things that took place in mine and my family’s life this past Spring and Summer. Some of them I will choose to share and some I will keep private. But for now I hope to be back to posting twice a week. I love Five things Friday, so I will do my welcome back post with this!

1. Rock N Roll New Orleans is this weekend! I am so excited about this event! This year the race added a new 10k distance! Also, it was just announced that there would be a #RnRTWEETUP at Cafe du Monde on Saturday morning at 10:30 am! After the tweetup everyone will walk over to the expo! I am not sure if I will be able to attend the tweetup-but I hope to at least see some social media friends at the expo!

My husband and I considered running the new 10k (Have you seen the bling? So cute) But instead we opted to volunteer with our local Track Club! Be looking for Adrian and me at the 1st water station with the New Orleans Track Club! We will be there smiling, hydrating, and cheering you on to victory!

2. We are trying a food box service. Have you ever done this before? We are using a service in the city called Good Eggs. Good Eggs is based out of San Francisco Bay area, but has locations in LA, Brooklyn and New Orleans. If you live within a certain radius they will deliver to your home for a minimum of $30 purchase. We live just outside the radius and so we are picking up our box at their store this Saturday. We are really excited to try this new option for food and hope that it will help us meal plan. The best part is that it helps us to buy local and support farmers and growers in our area.

3. I am back in school. In May I completed my Master’s of Divinity degree. However, due to some things that came up this Spring we needed to stay in New Orleans longer. So I am now enrolled in a graduate certificate program for Women’s Ministry. I feel like this degree will serve me well as I seek to learn more about ministering to women. This school year I am working full-time and taking classes full-time.

4. I am currently training for the Seaside School half marathon. My good friend, Beth, and I are really excited to run this race! At the finish line you get a Vera Bradley tote bag and a medal! We are using the hashtag #willrunforvera during our training! Feel free to follow us along at @leahbfrazier (instagram, twitter) @bebrowning (instagram). Please let us know if you will be at the race! We would love to meet up!

The photo above is from our first day of training for #willrunforvera The photo below is from last March where we ran RnR Dallas with our friend, Cari. We loved that race experience so much that we may just make a Spring girls’ race an annual tradition!

5. Mardi Gras season and a giveaway. That’s right, you are hearing it here first! I will be hosting a Mardi Gras giveaway! You will want to stay tuned to my Instagram account for more details (@leahbfrazier) I am really excited about this giveaway! Hint: it will be sparkly…and you will all want to win it!

I hope y’all have enjoyed this Five things Friday. I am glad to be (hopefully) back to blogging! Let me know what’s new with you and if you would like, you can answer my questions below!

What are you doing this weekend? Are you racing, traveling, etc.?

Have you ever used a food delivery service? How do you “buy local” in your area?

What are you currently training for? Do you have any other (non-running) goals for 2015?

Are you excited about my giveaway? What do you think it could be?

Champion ALL-OUT SUPPORT SPORTS BRA

Hey Y’all

Long time no see. Well, I am very happy to be back at Glitter On The Go today to tell you about a product that I have been testing out the ALL-OUT SUPPORT SPORTS BRA by Champion. My story starts where I feel like so many women’s starts, walking into a local running store trying to select a sports bra. For me I was ready to take the plunge and buy a good bra. When I walked into the store I was greeted by a small framed woman, and she asked if I needed any help. I told her that I would like help selecting a new sports bra. I was beaming-here was my time to get a rockstar bra that would not leave me chaffed or jiggly while running. Upon my request for help she looked down at her (smaller) chest and then at my (larger) chest and said she would be of no help to me since she had no boobs and I had boobs. Perfect, the whole reason I came in to the store that day had been for nothing. I mean who else was going to help me find a bra-the guys working there? Surely this lady no matter her frame does not run without a sports bra? But I will never know, because I have not been back to that store.

Fast forward several months and many miles later I saw a tweet from Champion Apparel regarding their sports bras. I tweeted them back as fast as I could letting them know I was in the market for a new bra, specifically one that did not chaff after 8 miles. They replied and asked if I would like to be a Boobfluencer for the ALL-OUT SUPPORT SPORTS BRA. Is that not the greatest name ever-Boobfluencer?! Of course I said yes! As a part of this campaign Champion sent me the ALL-OUT SUPPORT BRA, a top, and a pair of capris. I have not been compensated other than these items and all opinions are my own.

How I felt emotionally about the bra:

  • True story I was a little intimated by the bra when it arrived. I have never worn a sports bra with so much construction and that had a hook and eye closure. Read: I have only really worn seamless sports bras for my whole life.
  • I got stuck in the bra. Again, all the bras I have ever work were basically elastic sling shots and so I did not think to adjust the straps prior to getting in the bra. Note: If you adjust the straps prior to placing it over your head you will be just fine 🙂
  • I went to the gym as soon as the gear arrived and tried everything out. I felt very confident in that there was no jiggling while I ran or did the elliptical.
  • After my initial workout in the bra I felt like it did a really good job of wicking away moisture. My bra was not heavy because of sweat and I did not chaff.
  • You may be thinking, “Well sure after 1 gym trip of course you are giving it glowing reviews!”  I have worn the bra several times since it came in the mail for various activities. Mainly I have worn it running, at the gym, or for a walk around my neighborhood. I have not dealt with chaff in this bra. I also really like that it keeps you feeling secure when it gets colder.
  • All in all I have really enjoyed this bra. I am looking forward to wearing it for a longer run to see how it holds up. Read: A run lasting more than 10 miles, is when, for me, bras most likely go south.
  • You can purchase the Champion ALL-OUT SUPPORT BRA here.

For this review I was also sent two other items that you may want to purchase:

CHP_CH8240_PinkCoral

Champion Double Dry® Absolute Workout Fitted  Women’s Knee Tights

Source and Purchase here.
shirt

Champion Vapor® PowerTrain Short Sleeve Women’s Tee

Source and Purchase here.
Both of these items I have really enjoyed as well. The first thing my husband said when I put on my complete outfit was how flattering everything looked. This of course made me feel so great! The knee pants are very smooth and the short sleeved Vapor tee is very cool when you wear it to work out. I also like how many colors the tee has available. In these items I received a 38C bra, XL top and L bottoms. I felt like they ran true to size. In regular clothing I wear a size 14 pants and large or x-large top. I would love to add more of these items to my running collection!

If you have any questions about the items being reviewed please let me know. I would love to share and help you with your running gear!

go and be a light,

Leah
